Pay-Offs for Healthy Lifestyles Becoming a Reality in the US

Monroe County, PA – Regular exercisers and those with an average BMI of 25 may finally reap financial rewards.  Reports from major benefits consulting firms are indicating that more US employers than ever are offering financial incentives to employees for being healthy.  As medical costs of treating chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and heart disease continue to skyrocket along with insurance premiums, consensus is growing that many such conditions can be reduced and eliminated by lifestyle changes.  Most enticements come in the form of medical premiums or lower deductible amounts, but some are also just offering cash.  The number of employers with incentives for staying and getting healthy has grown 5% from 2010 to 2011, to 54% and now more companies are considering including spouses and dependents to incentive plans which totaled 29% in 2011.  So, on those days when it’s tough to get to the gym, or refuse that calorie laden desert, the carrot on the stick may be more than just looking and feeling great !
